Please share with colleagues and friends.

Hello, Friends,

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) Manhattan invites you to our 11th Annual International Women’s Day Celebration on Sunday, March 8 at the Holiday In at the Campus, 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. You’ll enjoy an engaging social hour, a delicious buffet dinner catered by Nico’s (optional; $30 general, $15 students), and a panel discussion (free and open) by five outstanding K-State graduate students. IWD is celebrating 115 years of recognizing the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The 2026 IWD theme is #Give to Gain. Help us make IWD one of the biggest GIVING DAYS of the year by supporting groups that work tirelessly for gender equality, such as AAUW and other philanthropies. The graduate student panelists are 2025 AAUW Manhattan Branch Scholarship Awardees (*) or PEO Chapter IW Scholar Award doctoral nominees (**). They will give insightful dialogue on their backgrounds, goals, achievements, and ways to help other young women.

  • Barbara Baker* is a first-generation college student, completing her MA in drama therapy. Her goals are to own a studio and bridge academia and institutions to support mental health wellness.
  • Maryam Ghasempour* (Iran) is an MFA student in photography. She came here seeking freedom to create her art showcasing Iranian women and desires a PhD in interdisciplinary arts.
  • Nicole Kucherov* is a doctoral student in entomology, focusing on the interplay between landscapes, climate patterns, and insect communities to help preserve local ecosystems.
  • Meghan Rice** is a doctoral student in organic chemistry, researching the total synthesis of pharmaceutical compounds. Her leadership, including @meg_thechemist, inspires others.
  • Vinusha Wickramasinghe** (Sir Lanka) is a doctoral student in biology, investigating ways to increase the seed oil content and value to cover crops. Giving back to society is another passion.

Appreciation is given to our co-sponsors: Dow Center for Multicultural Studies and Community Studies at K-State, AAUW Kansas, and Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce. AAUW is one of the largest national organizations that has worked tirelessly to advance the equity for women and girls.
