AAUW BRANCH BOARD MEETING MINUTES
MAY 1, 2017
VISTA DRIVE-IN, 11:30 AM (LUNCH), 12:00 – 1:15 PM
PRESENT: Connie Noble, Claudia Jones, Joan Strickler, President Karen Tinkler, Maurine Pruitt, Chante Ruppee, Marilyn Bunyan, and Jean Lee.
MINUTES: Karen asked for correction to the minutes, director-at-large and date need to be corrected. The minutes were accepted as corrected.
TREASURER’S REPORT: Claudia Jones and Shauntia Rippee provided an April Treasurer’s report.

Cash Balance April 30, 2017 $1,607.27
The Dillons’ reward is greater now. Caryl Wright wa given $365 to attend NCCWSL for travel expenses and other expenses as noted. Dues will be coming in, and we will have money from the silent auction. No bills were presented.
PROGRAM VICE-PRESIDENT REPORT: Connie Noble presented a great sign to be put up for the raffle tickets to Hair Design and Spa Basket gift cards at our upcoming Wrap-Up Celebration, May 8th.
STATE LIAISON REPORT: Nancy Bolsen left a report with Karen who reported that the OUTLOOK magazine had much about voting for National AAUW Officers. The Number on back of magazine is the one to use when we present our vote. 2018 National dues are up $10. The OUTLOOK will be on line next year and not sent to each member by the postal service. Wording will be changed from Branch to Affiliate. There was much discussion about this change. Nancy will not be on the board next year. It was suggested that Nancy possibly bring us up to date on the National from the OUTLOOK magazine as a member at large on the board. Next state conference is April 24, 2018 in Wichita, Kansas.
INTEREST GROUPS: Joan Strickler reported that Great Decisions will be on May 11, 2017 at Meadowlark. The chapter discussed is “Conflict and the South China Sea”. Serendipity is May 23, at 11:30 at Meadowlark. Candy White is hostess.
PUBLIC POLICY: Jean Lee reported that League of Women Voters State Meeting was April 29 at the Ramada Inn at Topeka. One speaker followed up on all that has happened in the legislature. Another speaker, Tiffany Anderson is the Superintendent from the Topeka school district. She was a great motivational speaker for those who are teachers and all others. The last speaker for Lunch with League spoke about Title X which provides for family planning was also really great. May 6th is the League of Women Voters’ Annual Meeting at Meadowlark.
MEMBERSHIP: Connie Noble and Maurine Pruitt no report.
NEWSLETTER: Barbara Gatewood no report.
OLD BUSINESS: Karen Tinkler, Nancy Bolsen, Tresa Landis, Barbara Gatewood and Tara Twiliger attended the state meeting at the Johnson County College. Tara did a great job explaining her trip to the east coast. Karen showed that we did get a Five Star Award for Overall Projects, Third Highest Giving Award, and Fifth Highest Per Capita Giving Award. Great job branch members!!! Karen also explained our International Program that we put on here in Manhattan in March. It was noted that Johnson County College has a college student organization like we do.
NEW BUSINESS: Who is the AAUW K- State student president next year? Not known now. Could the student group have someone from Johnson County College student group come and talk to them about fundraising, etc? Could we get another faculty member to help with the K State student group? These items will be discussed at our summer retreat.
At our Annual Wrap-Up Celebration we need someone to talk about International Women’s Day – could Teresa Landis perhaps do this? Joan could talk about Great Decisions. Awards will be given to the Outstanding Member and the President’s Award. The 3rd scholarship winner may be at the meeting and will speak for a few minutes. The Annual Wrap-Up Celebration Starts at 6:00 pm, May 8, 2017 at Meadowlark Community Room. Separate checks should be made out to AAUW Manhattan Branch for the following; Meal, Membership Dues, and Silent Auction Donation.
